Acid Staining of Floor at George Brown College

Acid stained floor at George Brown College

TTM Finishes was contracted by George Brown College Student Association to redo the floors in an 8,000 sf student lounge and a mall area that services stores, services and various eateries.

The floor was originally done by the general contractor when the building was originally opened about 7 years ago.  It was originally dyed and coated with several coats of sealer, however over time the coatings and dyes had all worn off the floor, leaving a dirty and unattractive concrete floor for the past few years.

We were asked for a solution for the floor that would be attractive and at the same time strong enough to hold up to the high traffic. The solution we offered was to acid stain the floor and cover it with 2 coats of clear epoxy. We felt the epoxy was strong enough to hold up to the wear and tear that the Student Association was expecting for the area.

The work took our staff about 7-8 days to complete the acid staining and epoxy coating, we used a combination of 3 different acid stains made by Scoffield.

The floor turned out beautifully. The Student Association was happy with the work, which was within there budget,  and the students have a beautiful new floor for their lounge and mall area which will work well for them for years.
